A "Linothorax" is an antique armour- type of greek orign and unknown material. Cloth- glue composite though has been suggested and for the last 3 years I´ve been building armour and armour- parts out of the stuff which proved to be able to withstand real swords and arrows if built correctly. Around here, the word is also used for the material itself.
This outfit, although used for fantasy larp, comprises completely of armour- grade linothorax, meaning at least 10 layers of cotton, in the double- walled sections 20 layers. No part of the armour has historical roots (besides the superbroad collar being impractical the ancients never built double- layered armour with crumple- zones) but I think if you want equipment like this for a fantasy setting, the material suggests itself much more than leather or metal which would both be expensive and much more difficult to manufacture.
This is my second suit made of the material. Meant to be worn in very warm weather it has lighter upper- body- protection than the first but collar and helmet facilitate much better air circulation.
Here´s a link to my website where the building is documented:www.larp-monsterbau.de/html/li…
